Beacon Rock Link-Up

Our friend Steve is moving out of state for a few years so what better excuse than to go climbing?!  Mike and Steve had never climbed at Beacon and were game to do the awesome link-up of “Free For All, Dod’s Jam p2, Dastardly Crack” – Trad, 400′, 4 pitches 5.10c so that’s what we did.

The drive never goes by quick enough! (at least for my passengers)  I basically grew up along the Columbia river – Dallasport Elementary 6 years, Lyle Middle School 7th & 8th and graduated from Stevenson High.  My wife says she sympathizes with passengers because I point and tell the same things every time I make the drive…Maryhill blah blah blah…Horsethief Butte blah blah…Klickitat blah blah…Wind Mountain, Dog Mountain and on and on…..and finally Beacon Rock!  (Oh! And by the way anyone that hikes Beacon Rock trail with me hears the story of when I mountain biked Beacon trail…)

We organized our gear in the parking lot because we’ll end up climbing over the safety rail landing on the hikers trail and walk down to the truck, not rapping to the base as with many climb descents.  The climb went off without a hitch and we only exceeded my estimated budgeted time by 1/2 hr clocking in at 4h 30min.  Once again my chit chat is becoming too much so let me turn the mic over to pictures, which say it better –
